The SMMC Behavioral Health Unit is a 20-bed unit focused on providing adult behavioral health care. This unit, opened in March 2018, is the result of a partnership with West Texas Centers - the mental health authority in the region. This is an inpatient, secured unit.

We recognize that emotional behavioral and chemical dependency problems can affect all areas of  person’s life. 

With proper support and services, people with mental illness can begin on a road to recovery and lead productive lives. Family involvement is encouraging and our program fosters therapy and support for spouses, parents, siblings and other family members and/or caregivers.

Our individualized treatment programs are designed to address our patients’ problems and needs. Each patient’s treatment team will assist in finding and using the tools needed to help build healthier, more positive life. 

Throughout the treatment experience, we work together with our patients and their families to encourage the best possible outcome and ongoing plan for success. 

Services offer a board-certified psychiatrist that oversees the program and patients on a daily. The treatment team also includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Mental Health Technicians, Recreational Therapists, Social Workers, and Counselors. Medication and psychosocial interventions are utilized as appropriate for patients. 

Adult Psychiatric Services

Our adult psychiatric services provide intense therapeutic, multi-disciplinary assessments, clinical interventions and treatment to stabilize individuals on crisis, At the most intensive level of care, inpatient treatment is designed for patients with behavioral health problems that require admissions to a hospital with 24-hour care available 365 days a year.
